  • English Speaking Board

As a school, Pimlico Primary continually strives to develop the way that children express themselves and engage with others.

We believe that successful communicators are confident; they can speak constructively and diplomatically, their thoughts and ideas are understood by others and they have the ability to understand.

As you know, we wish to recognise and reward children for their efforts; to this end, we are teaming up with The English Speaking Board (ESB).This international organisation awards children’s ability to communicate effectively and will provide teachers with a framework for improving the following areas:

    • Presenting (40% of the marks)
    • Reciting interesting poems (20% of the marks)
    • Reading aloud with expression and fluidity (20% of the marks
    • Listening and responding appropriately (20% of the marks)

It is our hope that these skills and abilities will remain with the children for life, equipping them to communicate well in formal situations, such as interviews and meetings, as well as informally.

In order to familiarise you with the content and how your child will be assessed, we will provide further information over the next few weeks. In the meantime, a presentation, which was shared at our recent parent workshop, is available on this page.

We will also be encouraging your children to practise their communication skills at home, in preparation for their performance day, during which the children will be able to proudly demonstrate what they have learnt to a teacher and a guest from The ESB.

As with all home tasks, we would ask that you please support your child by being a willing audience for your young performer, by asking them questions about what they are sharing with you and by ensuring that they respond in full sentences.

The ESB week is provisionally scheduled for Wednesday 28th June. Should you have any questions, please contact Miss Webb.
