Pimlico Primary prides itself on being an inclusive school which values young people of all abilities. Our aim is to make all of our new students feel welcome, safe and confident for their time at our Academy. Joining our Academy is a really exciting time and you will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of subjects and activities. Sports, music, dance, art, drama and science are some of the opportunities and experiences that are waiting for you at Pimlico Primary.
APPLICATIONS TO JOIN THE SCHOOL (YEAR 1 – YEAR 6)
Parents or guardians who would like to apply for a place at Pimlico Primary at any time other than Reception or nursery, will need to apply using the Bi-Borough in-year application form. You can find the Bi-Borough Primary In-Year Common Application Form, by clicking here.
Once an application has been received by the Bi-Borough Admissions Team, it will be forwarded to Pimlico Primary for a decision as to whether a place can be offered. If we are unable to offer a place, the child’s name will be placed on a waiting list in accordance with the published admissions criteria.
Applications to join the Reception Class
Leaving your nursery and moving to the new, much bigger world of primary education can feel worrying and stressful. Our aim is to make all our new students feel welcome and safe so that your child can hit the ground running at the start of Reception and make a great start to what will hopefully be some of the best years of your life. We offer an excellent Welcome Programme which allows children and parents to participate in a number of events in July before the child starts school in September to help support them through their journey into primary school. We also offer home visits which will take place within the first couple of weeks of term in September where each family will be visited by your child’s class teacher.
Pimlico Primary is a non-selective academy, with an agreed admissions number of 60 students per academic year. If the school is oversubscribed, applications are considered against the criteria set out below. After the admission of students with Statements of Special Educational Needs where Pimlico Primary is named on the Statement, the selection criteria will be applied in this order:
- Looked after children and children who were formerly looked after;
- Specific medical needs, social needs and special needs where the application is supported by written specific professional advice as to why the admission to the school is necessary;
- Siblings of students currently attending the school who will continue to do so on the date of admission;
- Nearest walking distance to the school – children who live the nearest distance from the school.
If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, he or she will be starting Reception in primary school from September 2020. Applications for admission to Reception class are managed by Westminster City Council. To apply for a place in Reception at Pimlico Primary please apply online via the following link:
Applications open on the 1st of September 2019 for entry to Reception class in September 2020. On-time applications close on the 15th January 2020, and you will be notified of the outcome of your application on 16th April 2020. If your application is not successful, you can put your child’s name on the waiting list managed by Westminster City Council.
If your child has an EHCP, the school named in their Plan must offer them a place. Pimlico Primary can accept students with EHCPs. If your child has an EHCP and you're unsure if a school is suitable for them, you can talk to your allocated EHC Coordinator or SEN Service.
You can ask your local authority to carry out an assessment if you think your child needs an EHC plan:
If your child is being assessed for special educational needs you should follow the standard online application process. If you don't apply for a school place through admissions and your child doesn't get an EHCP you may miss out on a place at one of your preferred schools.
Tours of the School
Parents and carers are warmly encouraged to visit the school before applying for a place. We offer regular tours of the school, which include tours of the classrooms, halls and playgrounds, and provide an opportunity to see the teaching and learning that takes place. Tours are run in small groups and so you will be able to ask questions.
Tours are currently taking place every Thursday at 9.15am - 10am.
Stay and Play for prospective Reception pupils: If you have a child who is due to start Reception in September 2020, we invite you to attend one of our ‘Stay and Play’ sessions. The next session will be held on Tuesday 7th January 2020 from 4.00pm-4.45pm
Please contact the office to arrange to join a tour.

If it has not been possible to offer your child a place at Pimlico Primary, you have the right, by law, to appeal to an independent appeal panel. Please bear in mind that although the law allows you to have the opportunity to appeal against admission decisions, it does not give your child the automatic right to a place at a particular school. There is no guarantee that your appeal will be successful and each case will be decided on its own merits by the independently appointed panel.
Appeals for Pimlico Primary are processed by Westminster City Council, and further information about the process can be found on the Westminster website and in the downloadable leaflet, the Admission Appeals Guide. If you are appealing for Reception 2020, your application outcome letter will include information on the timescale for submitting an appeal.
